Newly Diagnosed

For most people, a HIV diagnosis can be a life-changing experience. The range of emotions that can be experienced during this time will vary from person to person. Being diagnosed HIV positive is likely to have a wide variety of both emotional and practical implications.

Finding out whether you are HIV positive as early as possible, allows you to be in the best position to look after your health; you can then access HIV treatment and look to devise and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  HIV treatment works to help you live a longer and healthier life.

There are different health organisations which can provide support and advice during this time as you explore the implications of your diagnosis. The level of support you require will depend on your current life circumstances.

And it’s reassuring to know that people diagnosed with HIV are loved and accepted, maintain and form relationships, have children, and lead fulfilling and productive lives.
